Cinnamon Roll Hack: Cinnamon Knots

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 tablespoons instant yeast (2.5 packets)

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • A pinch of salt

  • 1 large egg

  • 3 ½ cups of all purpose flour

Dough Coating:

  • 4 tablespoons of butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon

Icing:

  • 1 tablespoons of butter, melted

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoons of milk

Directions:

A in a small saucepan, melt butter. Once melted, add milk and combine. Simmer for 2 mins or until the rim of the saucepan starts to bubble.

In a large bowl, add honey and yeast and honey to the bowl. Add milk/butter mixture to the yeast and honey. Mix and combine. Add salt and egg and combine.

Then, add in 2 ½ cups of flour. Mix until you get a sticky dough.

Add in 1/2 cup of flour and combine. Knead the dough in your bowl until the flour is combined into the dough.

Gradually add in the remaining flour into your dough, kneading the dough each time.

Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for another 5 minutes. Divide into 12-14 long dough ropes.

Coating the Dough:

In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.

Have melted butter handy in a small bowl for the coating of the dough.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Roll each piece of dough into a long rope. Coat the dough in the melted butter and then in the cinnamon sugar.

Form dough into a knot and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes or until golden.

Making the Icing:

Combine the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until you get a gooey icing. Drizzle icing on baked cinnamon knots.

Notes:

Want even easier cinnamon knots?

Use store bought pizza dough to form your knots. Go for pizza dough that's made from a local pizzeria or local bakery. This can easily be found in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store.

Make sure to flour your surface and your dough. Knead for 5 minutes before dividing your dough.

Continue with remaining steps to coat your dough and bake.
