Air Fried Plantain Fries

Platanos are life! It’s the one starch (aside from rice of course) that I ate at least twice a week growing up. Whether it be sweet plantains or green plantains, my family cooked them in so many different ways. From Mangu to maduros, and even tostones I was absolutely obsessed. It may be a Dominican thing but I think it’s a Caribbean thing. Either way you should have the same energy.

One of my weaknesses is tostones. I could seriously eat them every single day. It’s a sickness lol. One that’s so bad for me. The plantains are fried twice in oil- can you say fattening and unhealthy? When I love something that’s not so great health wise, I try to find a healthier way to remix that same dish. For tostones, it’s been air fried plantain fries. Yes, you heard that right. Fries but with plantains. It’s super simple and a great side for sandwiches, as a snack, or as a side for any dish honestly. It’s an easy solve for a quick lunch!

The best part about these fries:

  • No oily mess on your stove

  • They’re healthy and delicious

  • You can add your favorite spices/infused oils to them to make them extra special

This is a simple dish- hello convenience! Simply pop in your air-fryer and done!

Ingredients:

  • 2 green plantains, sliced into wedges or fries strips

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil, I used Home Beis Aroma oil for extra flavor

  • 2 pinches of your favorite seasoning, I used Home Beis Bayou blend

  • Salt to taste

Directions:

First, prep your plantain wedges (or fries) for the air fryer. Add your fries to a large bowl and add the olive oil and and toss. You’ll want to make sure that the fries are fully coated in the olive oil. The olive oil will allow these babies to crisp right up in the air-fryer to ultimately get the tostones consistency that we love.

Then pop the fries into the air-fryer. Line your fries evenly into your air-fryer drawer or tray and bake at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Then, you season your fries! Once your fries are baked and golden. Sprinkle with your seasoning of choice and salt. Enjoy!

If you want to get a little extra fancy- add a drizzle of a flavored oil to the fries at the end along with your spices and toss. This extra step adds a lot more flavor!

I love enjoying these plantain fries with a burger instead of your normal potato fries. Sooo good!
